Ethical and social aspects of robots
نویسنده
چکیده
Robotics is a very fast growing field especially in the last years and is a discipline based on: mechanics, physics/mathematics, control engineering, electr(on)ics, computer science. Therefore robots are frequently used as examples for Mechatronic Systems. Robotics unifies two cultures: Science and humanities. The effort to design roboethics should make the unity of these two cultures a primary assumption. This means that experts shall view Robotics as a whole in spite of the current early stage which recalls a melting pot. Some decades ago social aspects of robotics were discussed. Because of the results and the rapid development of this field ethical issues became more and more important. Therefore the term roboethics was introduced in the literature. The main goal of this contribution is to present and discuss this subject, probably at the first time, from the viewpoint of robotics. First an overview from a practical, robotics viewpoint will be given. Then a short presentation of currently and in the future available robots and some ideas about the ethical problems are discussed. Special emphasis is on the ethical behavior of the system “human-robot” and “End of Life – EoL” management.

Legal Frame of Non-Social Robots
This paper describes some relevant legal aspects concerning non-social robots. Special attention is drawn to Person Carrier Robots (PCaR) and Physical Assistant Robots (PAR). Although concrete legal binding regulations concerning these two sub-types of Personal Care Robots (PCR) are missing, the insertion of this assistive technology into the market arises some legal and ethical concerns. The m...
متن کاملAnthropomorphism in Human–Robot Co-evolution
Social robotics entertains a particular relationship with anthropomorphism, which it neither sees as a cognitive error, nor as a sign of immaturity. Rather it considers that this common human tendency, which is hypothesized to have evolved because it favored cooperation among early humans, can be used today to facilitate social interactions between humans and a new type of cooperative and inter...
متن کاملThe Burden of Embodied Autonomy: Some Reflections on the Social and Ethical Implications of Autonomous Robots
As robot technology is progressing quickly and robots are becoming more sophisticated both in terms of their appearance as well as in terms of their capabilities, it is time to reflect on the special role of robots among other artifacts. Specifically, we argue that embodiment and autonomy are distinguishing features that will cause humans to treat robots different from computers or cars. In thi...
متن کاملThe Study of Ethical and Social Dimensions of New Technologies, with Focusing on Nanotechnology
Background: Since the general distrust of a new technology is an important obstacle in the development of this technology, attention to the ethical and social aspects of emerging technologies can play an important role in the development of these technologies. The present study uses documentary and library studies to examine the social and ethical aspects of new technologies with a focus on nan...
متن کاملEthical Aspects of Multiple Pregnancy
The rate of multiple pregnancy has dramatically increased during the past decades, along with the diffusion of assisted reproduction technology (ART). Multiple pregnancy entail an increased risk of, at times life threatening, maternal complications i.e. pre-eclampsia, eclampsia or abruptio placenta, of serious neonatal hazards, i.e. extreme prematurity or growth retardation, as well as deleteri...
